Wayspoken
Privacy Policy
Wayspoken is an audio-first guide that uses your location to find nearby stories and, only after you agree, uses OpenAI for live voice conversation. This policy describes the current MVP service.
Effective July 19, 2026Information the app uses
- Location and route context. The app uses foreground location in Explore Mode to find nearby places and to pause map selection while moving. An explicit future driving trip may use background location. Precise coordinates are sent to Wayspoken in a private request body to retrieve relevant stories.
- Microphone audio and conversation. Audio is sent to OpenAI only after you grant AI access and explicitly open the microphone. Selected story/place context and conversation text are included so the guide can respond relevantly.
- Pseudonymous identifiers. The app creates a random install identifier for abuse prevention and service limits. It is not your name, email address, advertising identifier, or precise device serial number.
- Service usage. Wayspoken processes Realtime session, response, model, timestamp, and token-count data to estimate cost, prevent duplicate reports, and operate service limits.
How information is used and retained
Wayspoken uses this information only to provide stories and voice conversation, keep the experience safe, diagnose service failures, and measure service usage. We do not sell personal information or use it for cross-app tracking or advertising.
- Wayspoken does not persist raw microphone audio or precise route history by default.
- The current story cache is keyed by a coarse geographic tile and retains open-source StoryCards for about 10 minutes. It does not use the install identifier as part of that cache key.
- The current usage ledger is volatile process memory and expires inactive session records after about four hours. Production storage may change; this policy will be updated before a retention change is deployed.
OpenAI and other service providers
OpenAI processes microphone audio, conversation content, selected story context, and a pseudonymous safety identifier to provide the Realtime guide. Under OpenAI's default API data controls, inputs and outputs may be retained for up to 30 days for abuse monitoring and are not used to train models unless the API account opts in. Wayspoken will update its in-app disclosure and this policy if its production OpenAI configuration changes.
Wayspoken also requests public place and history material from sources such as Wikimedia. Those requests are made by the Wayspoken service, and source links remain attached to stories for transparency.
Your choices
- You can decline OpenAI access and continue without live voice conversation.
- You can review or revoke OpenAI access at any time from AI & Privacy. Revocation closes the microphone, disconnects the live session, and blocks new OpenAI credentials.
- You control location and microphone permissions in iOS Settings.
- You may request information, correction, or deletion by emailing us.
Security and children
We use encrypted network connections and keep the permanent OpenAI key on the server. No system is perfectly secure. Wayspoken is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information.
Contact and changes
Questions or privacy requests can be sent to privacy@wayspoken.app. If this policy changes materially, we will revise the effective date and update the in-app disclosure when renewed consent is appropriate.
